Michael Röck stormed onto the M1 podium on his rally debut.

The new season of the Rally Championship was ushered in with the Rebenland Rally.

The experience of his co-driver Martin Tomasini was also relied on by 2016 Ford Racing rookie Michael Röck, who built the winning Ford Fiesta according to M1 regulations. Röck’s main concern was to collect test kilometers on his rally premiere. Röck was well aware that he had chosen an extremely difficult, selective rally for the premiere:

“Many colleagues here have confirmed that - the stages were very slippery because of the grit. Because of the demanding stages, the brakes overheated in some cases, and so we lost some time. On top of that, the co-driver’s reading lamp failed on a night stage, and we had to make do with a flashlight. In three weeks we will start again at the Lavanttal.”
